FAQ Suggestions

This thread is open, and it is stickied.

This thread is for things that you'd like to see mentioned in the FAQ.

I'll start off with one:

Tell players that the newest cards they have received are always the last ones in their hand (card 8 and usually 7), since there is no explicit notification of what new cards you've drawn.

Under "User Details" there are two layout options:

() Always show Canals
() Always show Rails

I found out by trial and error that "Always show Canals", if unchecked, hides the display of canals in the Rail age. I assume that "Always show Rails", if unchecked, hides the display of rails in the Canal age. (Less useful to me, but I can see how opinions would vary.)

There should either be a list of options and what they do in the FAQ, or the text in the options area should be more informative. (I'd vote for the former, but I'm not the one doing the work...)

Q: How can I see what a tile will be worth (VP and steps of income) after it flips?

A: Click on any of the tiles on any player's mat, and a small new window will open up with a display of the tile fronts and backs. (You may need to adjust your browser security settings to permit this.)

Q: In the list of games, there is a field called "Inherited". What does this mean?

A: It means you took over from somebody who left.

There was a discussion elsewhere, where our host said:
No, I don't mean that's a rule you can choose to include in your games. "Apply" was a bad choice of word. What I mean is that you should always remember that in any game, loans can be taken at any time before the last four rounds, but not thereafter. This is a result of the rule that loans can't be taken after the players have drawn their last cards, the fact that the maximum hand size is 8, and the fact that two cards are used per turn.

FAQ Section: Game Play

We assume that you are familiar with the rules of Brass; for general questions about the rules we suggest the [link] forums [/link] at . Some questions that arise based on the web interface:

Q: When can loans be taken?
A: You can use one action to take a loan at any time during the Canal Era, and during all but the last 4 rounds of the Rail Era. There is a prominent message displayed when you have your last opportunity to take a loan.

Q: How do I know when the deck is empty, and I will no longer get more cards?
A: The last 4 rounds of each era are played out with the last 8 cards in your hand.

I would like a FAQ of: Is there a game etiquette that differs from playing Friendly or Competitive games?

If i'm in a Friendly game and I flip someones iron tile on my last move, is that not kosher in a Friendly game?

When an email is sent out announcing your turn, it would be nice to see the name of the game listed. I am playing 5 games right now and the only indicator I have is the number.

Additionally, having either/both the game name and the number in the subject line allows me to apply rules to the game in my inbox. I can send high-priority games to an important flag, etc.

Currently ----- Subject: It's your turn to make a move Body: This is an automated message. It's your turn to make a move in game number {Game ID}

Proposed ----- Subject: It's your move in {Game Name}, ({Game ID}) Body: It's your turn to make a move in {Game Name}, game number {Game ID}. Here is the URL to the game page:{Game ID}

This is an automated message - no need to reply.

Would it be possible to get an FAQ identifying all the columns in the various displays? I know there are explanations for some of the headings - "TLA," "TLB," etc. - but I've come across a column headed "LT" in my games history, and I have no idea what it refers to. A single source of all that information would be useful.

Q: What does it mean when the red "Maintenance is currently disabled." note is up on the top of the page?

A: This mode is enabled after system problems that kept people out, to allow people extra time to make moves before they are marked as long turns, players are kicked out of games, etc.
