General Brass Discussion

Speed of gameplay / first time player looking for a game

Howdy all, my first time here. I've played the game face to face only once, but was greatly impressed with the depth of play, flexible, dynamic flow, and multitude of viable strategies. I'd love to get into the online version hosted here, but I was a little surprised to see that games here seem to take, compared to what I'm used to, forever. I play a lot of games on the German game server BSW (http://www.brettspielwelt.de/), where the action is in real time, and even longer strategy games like Power Grid tend to take under 2 hours. Frankly, I think I'd have trouble adjusting to a more prolonged game style where turns are taken daily (or even longer?). I prefer an immersive gaming experience, where for the duration of the game I think about virtually nothing but my options and the actions of my opponents.

Are there any groups of players here that run sit down games where each player remains at the computer for the game's duration (perhaps with a break in the middle)?

And, of course, if I'm misunderstanding the time system here, my apologies ;)

Hi, I like to play near real time games. I live in the Netherlands. People who want to play fast games and live around the same timezone can always send me a message.
