When selling cotton, it would be very nice if the form preselected the target. My preferred algorithm would be as follows:
1: If I have unflipped ports of my own, preselect the one of those with the highest tech level 2: Otherwise, if it is absolutely safe to sell to the distant market, preselect distant market 3: Otherwise, if there are unflippad ports, preselect randomly among those with the lowest tech level 4: Otherwise the distant market is the only option, and there is no need to preselect.
As the system is now, there is a slightly annoying feature to catch those who are not paying attention: when selling cotton, even when selling from multiple mills and the first cotton was sold to the distant market (and even if the distant market was still pristine, and even if the DM tile happened to be -0), the form will forget that I wanted to sell to the distant market, and someone else's port will get preselected.
Full disclosure: it was of course I who flipped an opponent's tech 4 port in that exact situation X-)
(Should it prove impossible to preselect using that algorithm, then even a "please select" default option would stop a muttonhead like myself from accidentally selling to randomly selected ports)

As the two months mark whizzed by without so much as the tiniest cough, I'll comment on my own post to put it back on the front page.
I'd really like this feature.

I agree with this exact algorithm. Would also be nice to select the mills in order of maximizing one's own points, including canal/rail connections if possible.
