Move undo game #9108

This thread is open.

Posted by Redessa 2010-03-12 08:14:55 GMT

Can you please undo my move to sell cotton using the MCR card? Intended to build cotton in MCr then sell. Finger trouble.

Can I suggest an undo feature for the game as being highly useful?

OK I have done this as a favour

What do you think about the undo feature?

I have been working towards implementing a (sort-of) undo feature, but it will probably still be a while coming.

I say sort-of because what I have in mind is an improvement to the move interface, so that

- the move interface involves clicking on locations on the board and on buttons next to the board, rather than making a series of drop-down list selections
- you enter all the moves you are going to make in the game, in sequence, and the board changes as you choose each one to reflect what you have selected to do so far
- when you are happy, you click a "commit moves" button to carry out all of the moves you've chosen, or you can click a "start again" button to try again
- clicking "commit moves" submits your moves, and it means you have taken those moves and they cannot be undone
- you have to click "commit moves" if you have chosen to sell to the distant market, before you will be given the opportunity to enter further moves

Sounds great.
The distant market tiles really screw up the concept though - you're right.
Most of my issues have been errors after card 1 has played, so I don't think this'd be a big deal. Maybe an additional UI check if selling to distant market - "you know you can't undo this" sort of thing?
Keep up the good work.

The new interface sounds great. In the meantime, we appreciate the one we've got :)

Here is a page where I am working on the new interface. (Doesn't work in IE yet.) I haven't got a lot done yet; at the moment it just shows the game board.
