The bottom of the page says, "Site statistics - Currently not available, improved version will be available soon." I am curious what improvements are coming and how soon will "soon" arrive. Thanks.

I'm really busy with my course at the moment (new university semester), and have limited time to devote to doing things. "Soon" should be read to mean "a few weeks". I'm reluctant to put the old version back in the meantime because I worry it's really demanding for the database. The "improvements" are mostly to do with just changing the database schema (to fix poor design choices I made), but this requires changing some scripts (plus I am going to take the opportunity to redo some code that's not directly related to these concerns).
The new version of the statistics page will be split up into several pages, each one dedicated to one of the tables that was presented on the old version. This means that the database isn't typically working, with each page visit, to generate several result sets that aren't of interest to the user. It's also just better organised all round. The tables will be paginated so that you can e.g. look through and find out which users have the 101st through 200th best rankings. I'll also set it up so that you can look for best scores by game version. So in other words, there are no blindingly amazing improvements planned but it will be better nonetheless.

I come across wrong in emails sometimes, so I want to preface this with the disclaimer that please don't take this as wanting to be snippy or rude. I really appreciate all the work you've done, and the site works way better than I would have expected upon hearing about a web implementation.
One suggestion for the interim I have would be to instead of running the script as a web page, cron job it to run every hour, day, or whatever, and output to a flat HTML file and link to that flat file. And then put something at the top that says "Information Updated Every N hours."
That way the database is only hit very infrequently, and people will have mostly up-to-date information, which is better than none.
Again, thanks for all your efforts!

Ok, since it will be quite a while before I can get the new version working, I've taken the hint and restored the functionality, but with some steps taken to reduce how demanding the page is. First, you can only view it if you're a logged-in user. Secondly, you don't see all of the high score tables. There's one link from the main page that will get it to show you scores for 4-player games, one link for 3-player games, and one for 2-player games. If you don't use one of those links, you just see the summary statistics, the "most prolific players" table, and the "highest rated users" table.

Thanks for restoring the functionality. I look forward to the new version.
