I know that you are making changes to the notes to try to shrink the database. However, I think that your changes have led to a problem. I am currently playing game #810 and I just completed my moves in the canal phase. I went to edit my notes in that game and was told that the game was completed and I couldn't edit the notes. You may want to look into that.

Mee to (game 711)
this is the message shown:
This game has finished. You can no longer edit your notes. (Furthermore, please note that your notes in their current form, if any, will be deleted after a week has passed since the game finished.) Click here to return to the game.
To save you having to type part of your notes out again, here are the notes you entered:

This is hopefully fixed now.

It's fixed now.
There's another odd behaviour: acented characters (?,?, etc.), in old notes, were converted in "?".
But this bug is fixed: now, as I can see, new notes with accented characters are correctly saved.

morsac, the problem with accented characters is due to issues with character sets that arise when the data in the database has to be exported (as happens, for example, when I back up the database). Recently I changed some things in the database, and before doing this, as a precaution, I backed up the database. I then had to restore the database from the backup, and the restored copy had lost things like accented characters, ? signs and so on. If you look through messages posted in other languages before this weekend, you will see the same problem.
If I were to have to do the same thing again (backup the database and then restore it from the backup) then, at the moment, we would get the same problem with accented characters being lost. I am going to look into sorting this issue out so that backups are made with a suitable character set, but it seems like a complicated issue so it may be a while before I sort it out completely.

Well, it might not be as complicated as I thought. I spent a few minutes just now doing some stuff with the database to change the character sets it uses. Hopefully the next time the database has to be either backed up and restored or moved, the accented characters will survive, but until that happens it's kind of hard for me to say whether I've been successful or not!
