Confirm Turn

hi folks

do you think that a confirm end turn button important ?

something like you make your moves and after that
with the pieces on the boards you check it and
then give a OK and pass the turn for the next player

in the real life game here , i don?t do this , it?s once
a action is done , it is done and can?t be undone , unless
by rules mistake .

but part of thing of playing by turn over a few days is that
you have to mane games going on , and can?t concentrate to
well and maybe confuse some things.

so what do you think ??

maybe an undo button or something, i regret one play where i forgot to adjust the source of coal, consuming from an opponent instead of my own.

Unfortunately an "undo" function would be extremely hard to implement into the current system.

maybe set the defaults for sell ports and consume coal/iron for your own tiles?

I think a confirm button is a good idea. Even just something simple like showing you the log entry for your turn before it actually processes your action. Basically like an order confirmation that, yes, that is what I intended to order.

Hammerite, if you don't have enough to do already, I think user input errors could be reduced by filtering the options down to only what makes sense for the given action.

For example, I would recommend something like this.
1) Wait until the user has selected an action and which card(s) to use with that action.
2) Then display the relevant options which go with that action. (For example, Take a Loan only needs to know 10, 20, or 30 pounds. Don't display all the other options belonging to other actions. If I select Build Industry and use a Lancaster card, my only option for industry type would be Port or Cotton Mill. If I choose Cotton Mill my only location option is Lancaster 2.
3) Options should default to using resources belonging to the current user. (For example, use my coal if possible to build that rail link.)
4) Finally, summarize the user's action, card, and options for confirmation.

I know your current model is to use a text based approach to select actions, cards, and options. In the future, you might consider a more graphical based approach where you click the location on the map rather than say Manchester 3, for example.

All that said, your current implement is still providing a lot of fun for Brass fans.

helio, I've modified the board page so that if the user taking his turn has a port, a coal mine, or an iron works, then the default selection in those boxes is whichever of his ports, coal mines, or iron works is first alphabetically.

It doesn't check for things like coal mines being flipped, being the nearest source, etc. but hopefully it will cut down on mistakes like taking coal from someone else's mine by mistake.

If I have 2 actions on my turn, it would be extremely useful to be able to undo the first, especially for little things like using the wrong card to build a canal/rail link.

If that's not possible, oh well... :-)
