I would also like to suggest that scores for 3 player and 4 player games should not be lumped together. Scores for 3 player games will usually be quite a bit higher than for 4 player games, so it would be more meaningful to keep separate stats based on number of players.

I have been wondering for a while about whether and how to separate out stats. The calculation of stats is done afresh every time a user details page is loaded, though, so there is no problem with being "stuck" in a particular approach to doing things. I will think about it some more. The only issue is what happens if a game is downsized.

I arrived at the following decision: If a game is downsized from 4 to 3 players before turn 4 of the Rail Phase, then it counts as a 3-player game for the purpose of statistics. Otherwise, it counts as a 4-player game still. If a game is downsized from 3 to 2 players before turn 4 of the Canal Phase, then it counts as a 2-player game for the purpose of statistics. Otherwise, it counts as a 3-player game still.
